Kenny G s 1999 Faith album was an unexpected triumph of content and creativity. The album was largely driven by the long Millennium Mix buried at the end of the CD--an inspired soundbyte tour of the last century s historical triumphs and tragedies, with the alto sax man playing Auld Lang Syne underneath, it s emotionally moving and timely. The Kenny G of Wishes lacks the vision he displayed with Faith. Among the 10 tracks, two secular medleys (Frosty the Snowman/Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer and Deck the Halls/The Twelve Days of Christmas) are matched by the sacred medley of Hark the Herald Angels Sing and O Come All Ye Faithful, all marred by predictable arrangements. Finally, KG awkwardly revives Millennium Mix as Auld Lang Syne (The Freedom Mix)by simply adding some 2000 election, 9/11, and New Year celebration bits. --Martin Keller

Best Wishes - The CD was done in true Kenny G fashion. A beautiful rendition of Christmas songs with a great review of important events in his Auld Lang Syne. Amazon did their usual great job of mailing my CD out in a timely fashion. I always get their items before I start looking for them to arrive.

3 strikes and he is definitely not out - His third holiday/Christmas album is great. It has at the end, the Freedom Mix of Auld Lang Syne which sends chills up my spine as President Bush comforts the American people after the situation in 2001 with Kenny G playing the song. It is a wonderful album, but the last song can be a little depressing. The album is as good as the other two of Kenny G s. They are all albums to add to Christmas music collections around the world.

How Inappropriate! - While most of this CD is typical Kenny G, the final song, Auld Lang Syne (Freedom Mix), is one of the most inappropriate songs that I have ever heard on a Christmas Album. Please tell me why, after listening to some beautiful Christmas jazz music, I would want to expose my family or friends to sound clips of Ellen DeGeneres stating her sexual preference, or an ex-president of the United States claiming I did not have sexual relations with that woman. Kenny G is certainly a talented musician, but I have lost a lot of respect for him with his choice of sound clips selected for this Christmas CD. I will not recommend this CD to my friends.

Wishes - This is an excellent CD. It is great for playing in the background while entertaining for the holidays. It is also very relaxing when you want to unwind from a busy day.

Some things are better left alone... - While I m sure the rest of the album is great, I have to dissagree with the last reviewer. I just heard the re-vamped version of Auld Lang Syne on the radio and I was very disappointed. The original version released in 1999 (Millenium Mix), on his Faith album, was perfect the way it was. The new version sounds sloppy, with the original sound bites rushed or chopped just to add in new sound bites from 9/11. It reminds me of Ted Turner trying to colorizing classic black & white films like Casablanca. Since Kenny didn t have to actually re-record his background rendition of Auld Lang Syne, it seems like his record label is just trying to exploit and cash in on post 9/11 emotions. It s too bad, because I really enjoy his music. Some things are just better left alone.
